“Iranian food is one delicious surprise after another…as exquisite as so many Iranian flavours are, it is the buzz that surrounds eating, the primacy of food in so many social encounters that makes it truly one of life’s great pleasures.”

Not just kebabs! Feasting plays a central role in Iranian social life and the country’s cuisine is amongst the oldest and most influential. Iranian food is generally not hot and spicy as some non-Iranians may imagine it to be; comprising instead a delicate balance of sour, sweet, nutty, fruity and herby flavours. An intricate array of lamb, chicken, vegetable, nut and fruit based stews and side dishes form the bedrock of the cuisine, with many regional variations and specialities. Saffron, rose water, pomegranates, pistachios, yogurt and flat breads also play starring roles in the story of Persian cuisine. Oh, and of course, you’ll taste some of the best kebabs in Iran too!
